Resources

One of the things that I found most helpful as a Corps Officer was the Program Ideas that THQ published quarterly.  In this new day it is much easier to find and develop program material.  However, in the business of the day it can feel overwhelming even to know where to begin.  So for this page, I am going to try to keep a few resources that might provide a bit of help for worship elements, themed programs for women, men, and children’s programing.

As this is a work in progress it would be helpful to hear from you as to the kinds of programing items that you would find useful.

Colonel Virginia Talmadge was the wife of my training principal and had a wonderful gift for drama presentations for worship.  She is also the author of the book, Exploring Worship in which she has written a number of choral reading.  With her as an inspiration I discovered a love for writing and putting together choral readings. I generally do so using hymns and scripture. I thought that it might be fitting to start this section off with a choral reading.  (note: remember to date and sign original work.  I did not do so and I find that now there are a few items among my files that I don’t recall if I wrote them or if I kept a copy of someone else’s work.)

Call to Worship

A call to worship is directed to the people by God through the worship leader. It is an act that brings the worshiping community into being. The call to worship is directed toward the people. It is a call to focus mind, heart, and intention on the worship of God. Therefore, it is brief and emotive, not lengthy and intellectual. It has the character of an acclamation, not a teaching.
